The Documentary

Watch “A Leaf of Faith”

Directed by Chris Bell (Bigger, Stronger, Faster*), A Leaf of Faith (2018) explores kratom — a Southeast Asian leaf proposed as an alternative in the middle of America's opioid crisis — through interviews with scientists, veterans, athletes, and people in recovery.

Do Your Part

Take Action

Watching the film is step one. If you want kratom regulated sensibly instead of banned, the most effective thing you can do is support the organizations doing the advocacy work — you'll find them in the Resources column on the left.

Three things that actually move the needle:

1. Check out the associations. Visit the American Kratom Association and the Global Kratom Coalition to understand what's at stake in your state.

2. Sign up for their news lists. Legislation moves fast — email alerts from Protect Kratom tell you when a bill is filed where you live, while there's still time to act.

3. Contact your local representatives. Calls and emails from constituents are what legislators count. The Protect Kratom action pages connect you with your lawmakers in a couple of clicks.

Consumer Guide

Buying Safely

The film's biggest warning wasn't about the leaf — it was about what happens to an unregulated market. Adulterated products, concentrated 7-OH extracts sold as "kratom," and vendors who test nothing are the real hazard. A few rules protect you anywhere:

Demand lab results. Reputable suppliers publish independent, batch-level lab tests (identity, alkaloid content, heavy metals, microbes). No certificate of analysis, no purchase.

Stick to plain leaf. Avoid enhanced extracts and anything marketing 7-OH content — that's the category regulators are moving against, not the natural botanical.

Look for GMP practices. In the U.S., the AKA's GMP qualified-vendor program is the benchmark. Elsewhere, apply the same standard yourself. In Canada, for example, people looking to buy kratom in Montreal or anywhere nationwide should hold suppliers to that bar — Verified Botanicals is one that publishes lab verification for its leaf.

Why This Site

About Leaf of Faith

This site exists because the film asked a question that still isn't settled: should a traditional leaf used for centuries be banned, or regulated and studied? We keep track of where that debate stands — the science, the laws, and the organizations doing the advocacy work.

If you take one thing away: the difference between natural leaf kratom and concentrated extract products matters — to regulators, to researchers, and to consumers. Buy only from suppliers who publish independent lab results, and support science-based regulation like the Kratom Consumer Protection Act.
